Our clients knew that their house was always going to create something of a statement, as the site was clearly visible from a walking path and playing fields at the back of the site so it was going to need a strong presence on the street and to the rear. They also wanted a home that utilised the natural fall of the site so that it retained a physical connection to the creek below. Being inspired by mid-century design, their brief was that the home should reflect their interest in retro art, furniture and collectables. The resulting design provided an uplifting roof form, with materiality, colours and distinctively styled details that can be found throughout the design. It has an intriguing façade and modest scale to the street, with a more prominent form lifting above the landscape behind, balancing the need for privacy with optimising the outlook. This is a welcoming family home, where the personality in the design simply echoes that of the owners.
