Ashgrove Avenue

On a generous block in Ashgrove, Base was engaged to help a family subdivide their block and take advantage of their existing pool, beautiful tree-top views with a new low maintenance home. The form of the house evolved around the existing pool and established tree, providing unique views grounding the home back to the surrounding landscape. The materiality of the home was derived from the adjacent reserve, with hardwood and charred Shou Sugi Ban timber features throughout the home.

 The design aimed to provide separate and shared living spaces for parents, their teenage children and guests visiting the home. The central void allows a connection between the wings, while maintaining privacy for each user.
